First grader Matthew notices
his best friend Willie isn’t eating lunch at school. Willie says
it’s because his mom needs the lunch money to pay for his
sister’s new medicine. When Matthew tells his mother, she
suggests that he and Willie share a “golden” lunch together each
day and reminds him that Jesus said we should take care of one
another.
Golden Lunches
is all about the golden rule, which means caring for others and
treating them as you wish to be treated. By sharing with Willie,
Matthew makes a positive difference in someone’s life. A child’s
moral compass is developed through experiences. Reading this
book will inspire conversations with children about caring for
others.
About the Author
Debra Ralston grew up in Phoenix and found her faith early in
life. Her work as the clinical director of a shelter for abused
children inspired her to write this book. “Seeing children who
have gone hungry and homeless has been part of my day-to-day
work life for many years. The costs of medical care and parents
having to make hard choices about providing for their own
children has also impacted me both personally and
professionally.” The mother of two grown children, Ralston lives
with her husband in an adult community in Sun Lakes, Arizona,
where she works part-time at a nonprofit agency that assists the
home-bound elderly.
