Come to west Texas and meet
Napoleon, a fine handsome rooster and Marigold, a pretty golden
colored hen as they raise their family on a small farm near
Abernathy, Texas. The interactions of the chicks, with different
animals on the farm, are serious, sometimes comical and maybe
even dangerous. Napoleon meets the challenges head on as he and
Marigold educate, protect and hold their little family together.
About the Author

Peg Davis
was born in 1944 and raised on a farm near Abernathy, Texas. She
graduated from Abernathy High School in 1963 where she was
active in athletics, band and other activities of her high
school. She received her B. S. from Hardin-Simmons University in
Abilene, Texas, in 1967, with majors in physical education and
biology. After graduating from Hardin- Simmons she attended
graduate school at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville,
Texas. Peg taught school for 38 years, beginning her career in
Petersburg, Texas, as an assistant basketball coach and Jr. High
Earth Science teacher. After moving to Lubbock, Texas, Peg
taught at Lubbock High School for 25 years. While at Lubbock
High she taught physical education, health and coached cross
country and track. Seeking a change, she went to Harwell
Elementary, also in the LISD School system, and taught
elementary physical education until retirement in May of 2006.
Peg was named to the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1979,
Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 1990 and Texas Secondary
Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 1998. Since retirement
Peg has enjoyed traveling and reading.
