Losing a
loved one is hard enough, but saying goodbye to your best friend
as well is doubly devastating.
It was
March of 2004, and Mike Isenberg’s father, David, was diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer – a nearly certain death sentence. In
The Longest Year, Mike and his family deal with the pain of
losing their patriarch.
During the
eleven months of David’s illness, the Isenbergs experienced
unimaginable valleys to be sure, but also some surprisingly
incredible peaks. That the family was able to be truly “there”
for him in every way imaginable gave them an unexpected sense of
calm, even amid the sorrow. It was that peace of mind that gave
them strength.
This
family’s passage of life, death, and love is both moving and
inspiring. Deeply felt and lyrically written, it bares the
priorities that matter to every family and why.
