Dawn McLaughlin’s Two
Tickets to Heaven Please! is a wonderful children’s story
that broaches a sensitive subject with graceful aplomb.
Sisters Vanna and Isabella
love their grandpa so very much.
Their parents have been away
for awhile dealing with adult things, and the girls have been
enjoying their stay at Aunt Debbie’s house.
But Vanna and Isabella soon
learn that their beloved grandpa has gone to heaven. Although
they think of heaven as a very nice place indeed, they want
their grandpa with them, as it’s always been! What better way
to get Grandpa back than to go see God and convince him that
they need their grandpa way more than he does? But first,
they have to get to Heaven.
Vanna and Isabella sneak out
of their Aunt Debbie’s house and take a city bus to the airport
after they decide there must be a plane to Heaven. Why, planes
go all over the world, why not heaven! What a journey the girls
have as they finally arrive at the busy, bustling airport, only
to wonder: Where is the plane that goes to Heaven?
Dawn L. McLaughlin has
written an endearing and touching story that speaks to children
about the sensitive subject of losing a loved one. Seen through
a child’s eyes, McLaughlin’s voice is pure and true, expertly
capturing the emotion and innocence of a child faced with one of
life’s biggest challenges.
